Wedding F.A.Q.

General Info…

  • What is documentary wedding photography?

  • You are based in Vancouver, Washington… do you travel elsewhere?

    • Yes! I am based in the greater Portland, Oregon area, but I am able to travel anywhere. I will even get on an airplane for your wedding!

  • How do we book you?

    • Please fill out our inquiry form providing your basic info and wedding date, and I will confirm availability and answer any questions you may have. After that I would love to meet you somewhere convenient to all of us to discuss your wedding photography needs.

    • A signed and completed contract as well as a non-refundable deposit of $500 is required in order to secure a date with me. The deposit can be paid by personal check. The remainder of the balance for photography services is due 30 days prior to your wedding.

  • How do you prepare for our wedding?

    • Well before the wedding we will have met in person, online or by phone, and I will send you a questionnaire to complete as well. The questionnaire covers the final details such as time, any formal image requirements, names of wedding party etc.

Practically speaking, I make sure my transportation, location information, and equipment is fully ready for use. I have backup equipment as well, so there is never a concern.

  • Do you shoot in color, black and white, or both?

    • I always shoot in both, or color and then convert to black and white. I am best-known for my black and white images, and my clients typically get a mix of both color and black and white. The mix very much depends on the look and feel of the venue, the participants, and what lends best to a particular image.

    • I do offer a discount for 100% black and white images, but by default you will always receive a mix of both.

    • Lastly, I do offer a package that includes all of the images in both black and white and color.

  • Do you shoot group shots?

    • Absolutely! However, as a documentary photographer I understand that group shots are very traditional, sometimes required and this is not a dealbreaker for working with me. I try to handle group shots as quickly and efficiently as possible, often with the aid of guest who knows your family and friends who can assist with organization, etc.

    • If you require many formal group images please let me know, and I can arrange to have a second photographer available to handle that portion of the photography so that I may remain focused on storytelling.

  • What is included with your wedding packages, and when can we expect to receive the images?

    • I spend a great deal of time with your images, making sure they’re edited beautifully and skillfully. I hand-edit every image that you receive. To that end, it can often take up to 6 weeks to receive the images, but I will deliver quicker if at all possible.

    • You will receive an email link to your own private online gallery, where you can download images, order prints and share with friends and family.

    • You will also receive a download link for a slideshow movie of your images, set to music.

  • Are you a full-time photographer?

    • Yes, I shoot weddings, portraits and I teach other photographers.

Day of…

  • We’re super shy and worried about being photographed… HELP!

    • The beauty of the photojournalistic approach to wedding photography is that you don’t have to pose, or ham it up for the camera. In fact, it’s best you ignore me altogether and be in the moment. I will observe and capture authentic emotions, moments and details that tell your story!

  • Can someone else take photos during our wedding too?

    • Behind the scenes (BTS) shots are OK via mobile device, but no official poses or photos can be made by anyone but Katsanes Photography during the wedding and reception event.

After you’ve received your images…

  • Can I post your images to my social media?

    • Please feel free to use any photos you’ve purchased on social media! You may not use filters or edits of any kind, only post images as-delivered. We encourage you to tag us @katsanesphotography when posting online, but it’s not required.
